The lakes and woods that come home on your dog's coat
If you walk from the village down into Bretton Country Park, your dog's day is built around water. The River Dearne is dammed into the Upper and Lower Lakes, joined by the channel known as the Cut, and the perimeter path runs right along the silty edge, so a dog that's been paddling or chasing round the shore comes back damp, gritty and often smelling of lake. That kind of wet works its way deep into a double coat or a thick undercoat, and brushing it out at home rarely reaches the skin.
The woodland trails behind Cascade Bridge add the other half of the problem. They're gently undulating, shaded and slow to dry, with boggy patches near the stepping stones and the old boat house, which leaves muddy legs, matted feathering and the odd bit of twig and leaf litter caught up in the coat. A proper bath, a thorough blow-dry and a tidy sorts all of it, right down to the bits between the pads.
A short hop down Bretton Lane
West Bretton sits up on the A637, close to the A636 junction and M1 J38, and most owners reach me by dropping down Bretton Lane over the motorway towards Crigglestone, a quick run across to Hall Green. I'm IPET-qualified (trained at Mrs B's Grooming Academy in Leeds) and groom every coat type, from full grooms and puppy first grooms to bath-and-tidy, nail trims and de-matting. I'll always confirm the price before I start.
If your walks take you further out, up to Coxley Woods with its ponds, streams and becks, or the field paths towards Midgley and Overton, the coat comes back just as muddy, and the same groom handles it.
A quiet garage salon at home
My salon is a converted garage at home rather than a busy high-street unit. It's just your dog and me, with no kennels and no other dogs barking, so nervous dogs, puppies and older dogs can settle. To book, give me a call, WhatsApp or message. I like a quick chat about your dog first so I know what I'm working with.

Frequently asked
Grooming in West Bretton, your questions
How far is the salon from West Bretton?
About 4.5 miles, roughly an eleven-minute drive, usually down Bretton Lane over the M1 towards Crigglestone and across to Hall Green. Plenty of West Bretton owners make the short trip for a quieter, one-to-one groom.
My dog's soaked and gritty after the Bretton lakes, can you sort that?
Yes, that's an everyday one for me. Lake water and silt off the Dearne work right into a thick coat, so I'll bath it out properly, blow-dry to the skin and tidy up, rather than just rubbing the worst off with a towel.
Do the muddy woodland walks behind Cascade Bridge cause matting?
They can. Those shaded, boggy trails leave damp feathering and feet that mat if they dry on, especially on spaniels and doodle-type coats. I'll check for matting and de-mat gently where I can. If it's gone too far, I'll talk you through the kinder options before I start.
What if we've been further out at Coxley Woods or towards Midgley?
Same treatment. The becks and field paths north and west of the village leave plenty of mud and the odd burr, and a bath-and-tidy or a full groom clears it all out and sends them home smart.
What days are you open for West Bretton?
I work by appointment rather than fixed hours, and the salon is a short drive from West Bretton with times flexed around your slot. Call or message me on 07926 471552 to find a time that works.
How do I book and drop my dog off from West Bretton?
A call, WhatsApp or message to 07926 471552 is all it takes, and I like a short chat about your dog first. I groom one dog at a time, so I'll agree a drop-off and pick-up that suits you rather than leaving yours waiting around.
