What dogs' owners say

5.0 from 3 reviews · Read all

"I'd been looking for a trustworthy dog groomer in the Wakefield area for a while, so glad I found Keith's K9 Care. Took my black Labrador Bella in and Keith was calm, professional and clearly knows what he's doing. Bella usually really doesn't like bath time or even her paws being touched but she was completely at ease with Keith, which says a lot. She came back looking and smelling great too. If you're after a dog groomer in Hall Green or around the Barnsley area, well worth a call."
"Took my Belgian Malinois, Red, to Keith for grooming and couldn't be happier with the result. Anyone who owns a Mal knows how thick their coat is and how much they shed, but Keith did an amazing job. Red came back looking absolutely stunning, with his coat looking fantastic. Professional, friendly service and clearly great with dogs. Highly recommended! Now it's time for Red to go and get mucky all over again!"
"Keith was great with Beano and a real dog lover. Beano came home silky soft and not the stinky boy he was. Beano will be back to see Keith for another bath after his holiday 🐾🐾"

The story

I swapped the law for the grooming table.

I set up Keith's K9 Care, a professional dog grooming service in Wakefield, after more than 30 years working as a solicitor. I decided to swap the courtroom for the dog spa and work with dogs full-time.

My love of dogs began when our golden retriever, Ringo, arrived during lockdown. What started as a new addition to the family quickly grew into something much bigger, and before long Ringo was joined by Rolo, whose lively, playful streak is the perfect contrast to Ringo's calm and gentle nature.

As any retriever owner will know, they have a real talent for finding mud, muck and anything they shouldn't be in. Between long walks, muddy fields and their love of the outdoors, Ringo and Rolo keep me on my toes and forever cleaning and grooming. It's given me plenty of hands-on experience and a real appreciation for how much regular, thorough grooming and coat care matters.

Wanting a complete change of direction, I trained professionally at Mrs B's in Leeds and built up the skills to offer dog grooming to a high standard.

These days I run a calm, one-to-one dog grooming service in Wakefield from my purpose-built home spa. Every dog I care for has my full attention, with no other animals around during their appointment. It makes for a relaxed, safe and stress-free room, which suits nervous or anxious dogs especially well.

Why Keith

What sets Keith's K9 Care apart.

It comes down to six things, most of which other groomers can't or won't match.

Training

IPET qualified

Trained with the iPET Network at Mrs B's Grooming Academy in Leeds. That's a regulated UK awarding body rather than a quick weekend course.

Cover

Fully insured

Public liability and care, custody & control cover for every dog in the salon. Certificates available on request.

Pace

One dog at a time

There are no kennels or shared dryers, and your dog won't hear others barking through the wall. They have Keith's full attention from start to finish.

Pricing

Published, transparent

Small dogs from £40, medium from £50, large/doodles from £60. Surcharges listed. Keith confirms in person before he starts.

Honesty

Welfare first

If a heavily matted coat can't be saved kindly, I'll tell you straight. And if your dog gets too anxious, I stop and give you a call every time.

The salon

A home, not a clinic.

How we work

A calm pace and clear pricing.

One dog at a time

There's no kennel and no shared dryer noise, and your dog won't hear others barking through the wall. They have Keith's full attention from arrival to handover.

Straight talk about coats

If a coat is heavily matted, sometimes the kindest thing is a fresh start. Keith will talk you through it before he picks up the clippers.

Pace led by the dog

Nervous dogs and first-time puppies get breaks, treats and as much sniff-around time as they need. The bill reflects the real time taken, and Keith always confirms it with you first.
