Up the Barnsley Road from Darton

Darton sits on the Barnsley side of the boundary in S75, down on the River Dearne, with Kexbrough just to the west and Mapplewell and Staincross close by. From the village it's a steady ten-minute run north along Barnsley Road towards Newmillerdam to reach me at Castle Meadows in Hall Green (WF4). It's far enough out that an unhurried groom feels like a proper change of pace, but close enough that it's no trek. You cross the Dearne and the West Yorkshire boundary on the way, and there's parking right outside the door.

I work one dog at a time in a quiet converted garage. There are no kennels, no crates and no other dog barking in the next chair, and I'm IPET-qualified (trained at Mrs B's Grooming Academy in Leeds).

Dearne Way mud and Windhill Wood burrs

If your dog walks the Dearne Way along the riverbank from Darton station, where the path hugs the Dearne for the best part of a mile and a half down towards Haigh Lane and the railway bridge, they'll come home with the silty mud the valley is known for worked right into the legs and belly. A lap of Darton Park or a scramble through Windhill Wood adds wet grass, leaf litter and the odd burr or seed caught up in a longer coat.

A bath and tidy from £30 clears the mud, loose coat and that damp-dog smell. If the coat has knotted up after a soaking, de-matting from £10 takes it apart the kinder, slower way rather than clipping everything off. Alongside those I do full grooms, puppy first grooms and nail trims, with prices published and the same for everyone.

Booking from Darton, Kexbrough and Mapplewell

Phone or WhatsApp me on 07926 471552 with your dog's breed and roughly when the coat was last done, and I'll find a slot that suits. Nervous dogs, rescues and first-timers are genuinely welcome. Working with one dog means I can take my time rather than rushing to the next appointment.

If you're over near All Saints Church in Darton, across in Kexbrough by the boundary, or up towards Mapplewell and Staincross, you're a short hop north from a calm, quiet groom.

Frequently asked

Grooming in Darton, your questions

How far is the salon from Darton?

About 3.5 miles, a ten-minute drive north along Barnsley Road towards Newmillerdam to Castle Meadows in Hall Green (WF4). You cross the River Dearne and the West Yorkshire boundary on the way, and there's parking right outside the door.

Do you cover Kexbrough, Mapplewell and Staincross as well?

Yes. Plenty of my dogs come up from across S75, from Darton itself, Kexbrough by the boundary, and Mapplewell and Staincross just east. It's a home salon, so you bring your dog to me in Hall Green rather than me coming out, and the short run north keeps it an easy trip.

My dog gets filthy on the Dearne Way and round Darton Park, can you sort that out?

That's a big part of the job. A bath and tidy from £30 clears the valley mud, loose coat and that wet-dog smell after a walk along the River Dearne or a lap of the park. If the coat has knotted up after a soaking, de-matting starts at £10 and I'll always work the kinder way through it.

There's often burrs and seeds in the coat after Windhill Wood, is that a problem?

Not at all. It's normal for a dog that gets out into the woods and fields around Darton. I'll work the burrs, seeds and leaf litter out of a longer coat by hand where I can rather than just clipping straight through, and finish with a proper bath so the skin gets a look at the same time.

Is the salon suitable for a nervous or rescue dog?

It's well suited to them. Working with one dog means no other dogs barking and no rushing to the next appointment, so an anxious or rescue dog can settle and take its time. Tell me what worries your dog when you book and we'll plan around it.

How do I book, and what should I tell you?

Booking is by appointment so each dog gets the place to itself. Phone or WhatsApp me on 07926 471552 with your dog's breed and roughly when it was last groomed, and I'll offer a time. I'll confirm current days and hours when you get in touch.
