Your groomer is right here on Castle Meadows

This is our home patch. I'm based on Castle Meadows itself, your same WF4 3QJ, so for most of Hall Green I'm just along the road from Painthorpe Lane, Ward Fall and the houses around High Keep Fold. There's no drive and no parking to think about, and plenty of local dogs simply walk down with their owner, have their groom, and walk home again looking smart.

Hall Green sits in the Crigglestone parish, tucked between Chapelthorpe and Painthorpe, so I see the dogs that pad past the cricket and football grounds on Painthorpe Lane and the ones from the lanes running down towards the open fields. It's a settled, leafy little village, and that local knowledge helps me know what your dog has been walking through before they arrive.

Newmillerdam, Coxley and what they do to a coat

We're a short stroll from Newmillerdam Country Park, with its lake, surfaced lakeside promenade and the broadleaf and conifer woodland on the hills behind. A loop round the dam is gentle on paws, but the woodland paths above the water hold mud and drop plenty of leaf litter, twigs and burrs into a longer coat through autumn and winter.

Head the other way towards Coxley Valley and Coxley Woods, over by Netherton and Horbury Bridge, and there's a beck for paddling, bluebells and wild garlic in spring, and properly claggy ground after rain. Dogs that wade the beck or roll on the bank come home wet and gritty, which is exactly when a bath and tidy, a de-mat or a full groom keeps everything comfortable. I dry, brush right through and check the feet, ears and feathering for anything that has hitched a ride.

Quiet, one-to-one, and easy to book

In my converted garage your dog is the only one here. There are no kennels and no other dogs, just one dog at a time, which suits nervous dogs, puppies and older dogs. I'm IPET-qualified (trained at Mrs B's Grooming Academy in Leeds) and cover full grooms, puppy first grooms, bath and tidy, nail trims and de-matting, with the price confirmed before I start.

Being your most local groomer, I can usually be flexible on timing. A quick call, WhatsApp or message and I'll find you a slot, and many Hall Green dogs settle into a standing six-week appointment.

Frequently asked

Grooming in Hall Green, your questions

Where exactly in Hall Green is the salon?

4 Castle Meadows, Hall Green, Wakefield WF4 3QJ, my purpose-built home salon in a converted garage, just off the lanes around Painthorpe Lane and a short stroll from Newmillerdam Country Park.

My dog gets filthy at Coxley Woods, can you sort that out?

Yes. The beck and the soft ground down Coxley Valley leave dogs wet and gritty, and longer coats pick up leaf litter and burrs. A bath and tidy, a de-mat or a full groom puts that right. I dry, brush right through and check the feet, ears and feathering.

We walk the Newmillerdam lake loop a lot. How often should we groom?

The surfaced lakeside path is kind on coats, but the woodland trails above the water drop mud, twigs and burrs into a longer coat through autumn and winter. For most local dogs a groom every six to eight weeks keeps them comfortable; I'm happy to advise on the day for your dog's coat.

Can my dog walk to their groom in Hall Green?

Most can. I'm right here on Castle Meadows, so plenty of dogs from around Painthorpe Lane and the rest of the village simply walk down. A walked-out dog often settles better for a groom, too.

What are your opening hours here in Hall Green?

I work by appointment rather than fixed drop-in hours, and being right here in Hall Green I can usually be flexible. Call or message me on 07926 471552 and I'll confirm a time that suits, and I'm happy to set up a regular slot if that helps.

Do you groom doodles and poodle crosses in Hall Green?

Yes, doodles and poodle crosses are among the coats I groom most, alongside every other breed and coat type. Those curly coats mat quickly, especially after a muddy Coxley or Newmillerdam walk, so a regular groom keeps them comfortable. I'm IPET-qualified and handle full grooms, puppy grooms and de-matting.
