The woods and old lanes your dog comes home from
If you walk out of Notton or Woolley, you're never far from trees and mud. Notton Woods are the surviving fragment of a medieval deer park, and the old green lanes around them (Smawell Lane, Woolley Mill Lane and Applehaigh Lane down towards Applehaigh Clough) turn soft and claggy for most of the autumn and winter. That heavy clay is what I see most. It dries into the belly, leg feathering and pads, and on a longer or curly coat it works into mats if it isn't lifted out properly.
Drop down to Seckar Wood on the edge of Woolley and the going changes again. It's an SSSI of ancient woodland, wetland and sandy lowland heath, so a dog comes back carrying fine grit, bracken bits and, after the boggy patches, a damp musty smell rather than thick mud. I always check what your dog has actually been into before I pick a wash and a finish for it.
After Woolley Edge or Newmillerdam
Woolley Edge gives the open, breezy ridge walks. Newmillerdam Country Park, a short run south on the A61, gives the lake loop. Both are lovely and both leave their mark. The Newmillerdam path is compacted earth that goes genuinely soft and puddled after rain, and the lake itself tempts a lot of dogs in. That pond water and silt sits deep in the undercoat and needs a proper bath rather than a quick rinse to clear it.
Whatever the walk threw at them, a full groom or a simple bath and tidy sends them home clean, dried through to the skin and brushed out, with nails and the bits around the pads sorted too.
A calm grooming room about nine minutes away
I'm Keith, and I groom one dog at a time in a quiet converted garage at home in Hall Green. There are no kennels and no other dogs waiting, just your dog and me. It's about 3.5 miles and roughly a nine-minute drive north through the lanes from Notton and Woolley, with parking right outside on Castle Meadows.
I'm IPET-qualified and cover full grooms, puppy first grooms, bath and tidy, nail trims and de-matting, and I always confirm the price with you before I start. To book, give me a call, WhatsApp or message and tell me the breed and how the coat's looking.

Frequently asked
Grooming in Notton & Woolley, your questions
My dog gets caked in Notton Woods after rain. Can you sort that?
Yes, that heavy lane and woodland clay is the most common thing I deal with. A full groom or a bath and tidy lifts it out of the legs, belly and pads, and your dog goes home clean, dried right through and brushed out.
We walk a lot in Seckar Wood. Does the heath and bog cause coat problems?
It can. Seckar's sandy heath and wet patches leave fine grit and a damp, musty smell in the coat rather than thick mud, so I match the wash to that. Tell me where you've been walking when you book and I'll plan the groom around it.
My dog swims in the lake at Newmillerdam. Is that a problem for the coat?
Not at all, but pond water and silt sit deep in the undercoat and need a proper bath rather than a rinse to clear, otherwise the smell lingers. A bath and tidy or full groom will get them fresh again.
How far is the salon from Notton and Woolley?
About 3.5 miles, roughly a nine-minute drive north through the lanes to Castle Meadows in Hall Green (WF4), with parking right outside.
Is it quiet? My country dog isn't used to busy places.
Very. It's one dog at a time in a converted garage at my home, with no kennels and no other dogs around. That makes it a calmer setting than a busy high-street salon, and it suits nervous dogs, puppies and seniors.
Do you publish your prices?
Yes, they're listed in full with breed-by-breed examples on the pricing page. A full groom starts at £40 for small dogs, £50 for medium and £60 for large or doodles, and I confirm the exact figure with you before I start.
