Just down Standbridge Lane from Kettlethorpe
If you live around Kettlethorpe High School or the streets off Standbridge Lane, I'm only a short run away. The same lane carries you down through Chapelthorpe and into Hall Green, where I am, in about seven minutes. There's no need to head into the town centre, and there's parking right outside on Castle Meadows.
It's a corner of WF2 with proper green space on its doorstep, which is lovely for a dog and a little less lovely for a coat. I see plenty of Kettlethorpe dogs come in carrying the evidence of a good walk.
Pugneys, Newmillerdam and what they do to a coat
Pugneys Country Park is the obvious local favourite, with the waterside paths around the big lake, the quieter nature-reserve lake, and the River Calder running alongside on the way towards Horbury. A dog that's been near that water comes back damp and often smelling of it, and the softer ground churns up after rain.
Newmillerdam, a little further south, is the woodland one: lakeside and tree-lined trails on earth tracks that turn properly muddy and rutted once the weather sets in. Both throw up the same grooming jobs. Mud works deep into leg feathering and belly fur, twigs and seed heads catch in furnishings, and the damp-dog smell wants a proper bath rather than a quick wipe. I'll wash it all out, dry the coat down to the skin and check between the pads and toes where grit likes to hide.
A calm groom in a quiet home salon
Mine is a home salon in a quiet converted garage. I groom one dog at a time, with no kennels and no other dogs around, which suits puppies, older dogs and anyone who finds a busy high-street salon too much.
I'm IPET-qualified and groom every coat type, including full grooms, puppy first grooms, bath and tidy, nail trims and de-matting, and I'll always confirm the price with you before I start. To book, give me a call, a text or a WhatsApp and tell me a bit about your dog so I can set aside the right amount of time.

Frequently asked
Grooming in Kettlethorpe, your questions
How far is the salon from Kettlethorpe?
About 2.5 miles, a seven-minute drive down Standbridge Lane through Chapelthorpe to Castle Meadows in Hall Green (WF4).
My dog gets filthy at Pugneys. Can you sort that out?
That's a big part of what I do. Lake and riverside walks leave dogs damp, smelly and caked in mud through the legs and belly, so I'll give a full bath, work the dirt out of the feathering and dry the coat right down to the skin rather than just towelling the top off.
We walk at Newmillerdam a lot. Does the woodland matter for grooming?
It does. Those earth tracks get muddy and rutted in wet weather, and the trees drop twigs and seed heads that catch in furnishings and behind the ears. I'll comb it all out and check the matting it can cause if it's left.
When can my puppy start grooming?
Usually from around 12 weeks, after the second vaccination. The calm, quiet setup is ideal for a gentle first experience that sets them up for a lifetime of walks around the lakes.
What are your opening hours?
I groom by appointment rather than fixed opening hours, so I can often fit around work and family. Message or call me on 07926 471552 and I'll confirm a time that works.
